We’re thrilled to have Marshall University as our newest academic member!
Marshall’s Department of Computer and Information Technology already includes some information about accessible design and development in its undergraduate web programming courses, which is a great start. The department hopes to incorporate accessibility awareness and the principles of accessible technology design and development more extensively in other courses as well.
Other programs at Marshall, such as technology management, have also begun investigating how to include awareness of accessibility issues and concepts in their curricula. This is an important issue at Marshall in particular because, of the fifty states, West Virginia has the highest percentage of people under age 65 with a disability (14.4%), according to U.S. Census Quick Facts. Marshall recognizes that its students need to learn awareness as well as the technical skills to prepare them to create a more accessible and inclusive future.
