Enhancing Student Knowledge of Accessibility

Geneene N. Thompson, Ph.D, Teaching Assistant Professor at North Carolina A&T State University, shares how the Teach Access Fellowship Program has expanded her knowledge of accessibility so she can better equip her students.Headshot of Geneene Thompson. She is wearing a yellow blazer.

“The Teach Access Fellowship has afforded me with a unique and invaluable opportunity to enhance my pedagogical approach and learn more about the latest research and practices in the field. Already, the program has expanded my knowledge of accessibility principles, increased my awareness of the wide range of disabilities, inspired me through poignant personal anecdotes of individuals with disabilities and facilitated meaningful exchanges of ideas with professionals and experts in academia and industry. Undoubtedly, after this comprehensive and enriching experience I will have the ability to equip my students with the skills and knowledge they need to implement inclusive practices and develop cutting-edge technology for people with diverse abilities. This in turn will prepare students to make a tremendous impact on the lives of others and lead to the development of a more accessible.”
